Concentra Medical Centers, the nation’s leader in occupational wellness care serving employers and employees with 15 centers inside the Chicago area, has geared up for the flu season with thousands of flu vaccines to serve the area’s workforce. Concentra will be hosting flu clinics for area businesses so that employees can be vaccinated as the flu season hits the Midwest.
Each year 1 in 5 individuals become sick with influenza. One flu shot can save a business much more than a $1,000 in lost time by an employee who just isn’t vaccinated and comes down using the flu. Concentra plans to administer 280,000 flu vaccine doses across the country during the 2007-2008 flu season.
In a report released in 2006, the CDC documented the spread of the influenza virus across the United States. The data determined that the western-most regions, which includes the Pacific, Mountain, and Southwest states experienced an early and extended outbreak of the flu virus beginning in October and peaking in mid-December. The CDC expects to have the largest number of doses ever, up to 132 million flu vaccine doses during the 2007-2008 flu season — 12 million far more than were produced last year.
“With far more than 250 employer-based sites and 320 Concentra Medical Centers across the country, we can give flu shots to maximize effectiveness in accordance with peak regional flu rates,” said Jane Derebery, M.D., Concentra’s Influenza Program Director.
